Following a screening and Q&A with reporters promoting FX's American Horror Story: Coven, Murphy shared that the episode -- titled "The Quarterback" in a nod to former football star Finn Hudson -- was "incredibly difficult to work on" and "very difficult to shoot."
"The episode is called 'The Quarterback,' and Cory really was that to that group of people -- and to me particularly," said Murphy, who locked the episode Thursday. "That group of kids particularly went through the limelight and became world famous at a very difficult age, and many of them really struggled with it."

"Cory obviously very much struggled with it, but never on the surface, and I think that's why everybody loved him," he added. "He was the most kind, the most generous -- never a bad word for anybody."
Monteith was found dead on July 13 at the age of 31. An autopsy revealed that the actor had died of mixed drug toxicity from a combination of intravenous heroin use and alcohol.
Monteith's Finn Hudson was edited out of the first two episodes of Glee's fifth season. The tribute episode will air Oct. 10, following which the Fox musical will take a hiatus for baseball that series creators will use to map out the show's future without one of its central stars.
"What you will see in the episode is what really happened," Murphy said of the hour. "Brad [Falchuk] and Ian [Brennan] and I wrote that episode and Brad directed it, and those performances that you'll see, almost everything in that episode is from the first take of every performance because the actors and the crew had a really hard time shooting it."

"I've never seen a crew that you can't continue shooting because they've left the room sobbing. It was very hard. I struggled even working on it because what you're seeing is what they felt not just about Finn but Cory. It's amazing performances across the board and everybody went into it with a lot of love," he continued. "What I loved about it is when you write something like that, there's no right way to do it."
Murphy also noted that he received an outpouring of calls from former cast members asking to appear in the episode who weren't under contract, including Iqbal Theba (Principal Figgins).
"It was very rough, and it was very rough with [Monteith's girlfriend] Lea [Michele]," Murphy added. "I'm very proud of it. I think the performances are quite stunning. It was tricky. You had to have a hard eye when you were putting it together. People still are not over it and it's still very difficult."

The people who helped to bring the world “Homeland” are once again bringing a tale of espionage to the United States.
Homeland” executive producer Keshet International is teaming with Fox International Channels to adapt Keshet’s Israeli drama series “Shkufim” (“False Flag”), which is inspired by the assassination of a Palestinian radical in 2010.

Parkland” writer/director Peter Landesman (pictured) is  adapting the project for American audiences. In it, eight apparently ordinary American citizens wake up to find their faces and private lives broadcast across the internet and television news around the world as suspects in a brazen and dangerous international crime. What seems at first like a horrible case of mistaken identity quickly becomes a breakneck, psycho-espionage thriller.
“The pedigree and passion of FIC and Keshet make them the perfect creative partners,” Landesman, whose adaptation of “False Flag” will mark his television debut, said. “The espionage thriller is a genre we all know, love and are excited to take to a level we hope audiences will not have experienced before.”

Landesman is co-writing the pilot for the adaptation with  Amit Cohen-Raab, who co-created and wrote the Israeli series.
In addition to “Homeland” — which is based on the Keshet series “Prisoners of War” — Keshet is developing a number of potential series, including the drama “Tyrant,” from “Homeland” executive producers Howard Gordon and Gideon Raff, along with Craig Wright (“Six Feet Under”).

"For the coming second season of its superhero series "Arrow," the CW Network is adding actual superpowers. "Arrow" is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, who was introduced in 1941, and it features a costumed crime fighter, played by Stephen Amell, who is great with a bow but doesn't have any supernatural abilities.
To differentiate the TV hero from the comic-book character, the series splits its time between the Arrow and his alter ego, a billionaire playboy named Oliver Queen who picked up his archery skills when he was marooned on a mysterious island for five years.

Rather than rely on superheroes, the show's first season featured high-octane fight scenes and high-tech weaponry. The result was the network's most watched show in the 2012-2013 season, with a premiere that drew 4.1 million total viewers, the largest audience for any show on the network in three years. The CW is owned by CBS Corp. CBS +1.09% and Time Warner TWX +1.32%Inc..
"We always pitched this show more like Jason Bourne than a comic book," says Greg Berlanti, a writer, executive producer and co-creator of "Arrow." "But we're changing some of it up this season."
Those changes include a shift in genre, from action-adventure series to superhero-driven drama.
Arrow "doesn't want to be the vigilante anymore, he wants to be the hero," says Marc Guggenheim, a writer, executive producer and co-creator of "Arrow."
As the CW seeks to continue broadening its programming beyond its core demographic of women 18 to 34 years old, the show's creators have teamed up with DC Entertainment's chief creative officer, Geoff Johns, to introduce another DC character, Barry Allen/the Flash, played by "Glee" co-star Grant Gustin, into three of this season's 22 episodes.
Allen is a forensic police scientist who gets struck by lightning and transforms himself into the Flash, a costumed hero who is imbued with super speed.
Season 2 of "Arrow" will start Oct. 9, just a few weeks after "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."—Marvel Entertainment's first live-action series since it was acquired by Walt Disney Co. DIS +0.53%—arrived on ABC with 11.9 million viewers, the highest-rated network-drama debut in four years.
DC Entertainment is owned by Time Warner, as is Warner Bros. Television, which produces and distributes the series. In addition to the Flash, "Arrow" is also incorporating the Black Canary and the Bronze Tiger, two other DC characters, into its sophomore season.
Culling a greater number of characters from the DC universe is a big synergetic move for Warner Bros., whose film studio has grossed more than $6 billion world-wide because of its DC film properties such as Batman, Superman and the Dark Knight trilogy.
Translating that relationship to the small screen, Warner Bros. Television announced two DC-related projects that are in development, "Constantine," an NBC drama about a con man turned detective, and "Gotham," a Fox show that takes on the origin stories of Commissioner James Gordon and some of the fictional city's villains.
Fox Broadcasting Corp. is part of 21st Century Fox Inc., FOX +1.62%and until recently it was part of the same company as The Wall Street Journal.
Last season 51% of the audience for "Arrow" was men. To increase those numbers, the network created its first two-hour TV special recap for a continuing show titled "Arrow: Year One," a nod to the titling style of DC's graphic novels. The recap will air Oct. 2.
"We approached season two of 'Arrow' like a sequel," said Mr. Guggenheim, "and we've all seen how superhero sequels have performed. We want to tap into that."

All'armi, irrompe Netflix e i network italiani s'attrezzano...

In America Netflix è entrata ufficialmente nella storia della tv all'ultima edizione degli Emmy Awards, gli Oscar della televisione. È infatti la prima Internet Tv a vincere un premio per una serie pensata, realizzata e distribuita solo per il pubblico online: House of cards, il thriller politico con protagonista Kevin Spacey, il cui regista David Fincher è stato celebrato come il migliore nella categoria «drammatica» alla cerimonia del 22 settembre.
Le innovazioni
Ma Netflix aveva già fatto la storia innescando una rivoluzione nel modo di guardare film e telefilm: in qualsiasi momento, su qualsiasi schermo, in modo semplice e personalizzato. Una formula che in pochi anni ha conquistato il pubblico americano (quasi 30 milioni di abbonati), sfondato a Wall Street - +450% le azioni di Netflix negli ultimi 12 mesi - e ora sta sbarcando anche in Italia.
Netflix BuildingMediaset ha annunciato che per Natale lancerà la «Netflix italiana» e secondo voci di mercato anche Sky Italia sta studiando un'offerta speciale su Internet secondo un modello sperimentato in Gran Bretagna da BSkyB.
Per chi ama i video «doc» è una pacchia, anzi un'abbuffata di contenuti di qualità, grazie alla concorrenza che i vari operatori si stanno facendo per attirare la loro attenzione e fidelizzarli.
Una delle novità introdotte da Netflix è proprio la possibilità di guardare un'intera nuova serie di fila: i 13 episodi di House of cards sono stati disponibili online tutti insieme subito per soddisfare ancora meglio il nuovo modo di consumare gli spettacoli.La scommessa di Netflix è che la Internet Tv rimpiazzerà quella tradizionale. Di certo il suo modello sta influenzando le strategie di tutti i concorrenti, che sono molti: da Amazon e YouTube-Google ai canali premium televisivi.JAMES MURDOCH
Il salto
La società fondata da Reed Hastings nel 1997 aveva cominciato distribuendo dvd per posta, con un abbonamento mensile e senza limiti per la durata della visione di ogni film. Poi dal 2007 è passata alla diffusione di video in stream via Internet: per 7,99 dollari al mese negli Usa - con l'opzione di interrompere l'abbonamento a piacere - gli utenti possono guardare un'ampia collezione di film e telefilm su qualsiasi apparecchio collegato al web, dai pc ai tablet, dagli smartphone ai televisori.
Da quest'anno Netflix ha fatto il salto ulteriore come produttore in proprio di contenuti: oltre a House of cards ha lanciato altri quattro show in esclusiva che sono già un cult, come Orange is the New Black. Avendo a disposizione una miniera di dati sui gusti dei suoi clienti e analizzandoli con sofisticati algoritmi può scommettere su quali programmi avranno successo e investire con più sicurezza sulla loro realizzazione.
mediaset premium«Netflix sta davvero cambiando il mondo della Tv, ma ha bisogno di contenuti sempre nuovi e interessanti: le licenze di materiale altrui sono costose e durano solo qualche anno, mentre produrre in proprio serve ad affermarsi come marchio e ad attirare e trattenere nuovi utenti», spiega Guy Bisson, capo della ricerca sulla TV di Ihs screen digest a Londra.
I costi dell'acquisizione dei diritti in tanti mercati con regole e culture diverse, oltre alla minore diffusione della banda larga - indispensabile per godersi i video online - spiegano la cautela con cui Netflix sta espandendosi in Europa. Solo l'anno scorso è partito il suo servizio in Gran Bretagna, Irlanda e nei Paesi nordici; da settembre c'è in Olanda e le prossime tappe dovrebbero essere Francia e Germania. In Italia agli ostacoli sopra citati si aggiunge il peso della crisi che ha diminuito la propensione dei consumatori a sottoscrivere la pay TV.
La risposta
Ma anche in Italia esiste una nuova generazione di giovani - e meno giovani - abituati a passare molto tempo sui loro pc, smartphone e tablet e non interessati ad abbonarsi alla Tv «premium» come quella di Mediaset o di Sky. Finora il mercato è stato nelle mani di Cubovision di Telecom e della Chili-tv di Fastweb.
netflix europeOra scendono in campo i big dello show business. Mediaset si è accaparrata il primato di creare la «Netflix italiana»: il suo nome provvisorio è Infinity, sarà indipendente dal servizio «premium» attuale (che realizza il 17,8% dei ricavi del mercato pay Tv italiano, il 77,6% va a Sky, secondo l'Autorità per le garanzie nelle comunicazioni) e potrà essere attivata solo online, pagando meno di 10 euro al mese per un catalogo di circa 5 mila titoli, fanno sapere dal quartier generale di Mediaset.
Il debutto di Sky dovrebbe invece avvenire nel 2014 con una formula simile a quella di BSkyB: film e telefilm online con un pò meno scelta e a un prezzo meno caro della normale pay Tv e la visione di eventi sportivi pagando extra.
